Like New 2000 Fender American Standard Stratocaster with a transparent white or see-through blonde style finish, just like the
Mary Kaye model. Appears from the weight grain and sound to be Swamp Ash. The grain shows through in an almost blue color.
This guitar has been signed by Steve Miller of the Steve Miller Band. He also added some original artwork to the guitar, as he is
also known as an artist. My interpretation of the Art is that is seems symbolic of the lyrics in "Fly Like An Eagle".
The original owner told me that he won this in a national sweepstakes from one of the major guitar magazines and he never played it.
He said it arrived with the smudge on it, whether that means that Steve Miller actually played this or not, I don't know. But I suspect
he may have. I haven't had any success tracking down the origin of the guitar, speaking directly with Guitar World, Guitar Player, and the
Fender Museum as well as the factory. I suspect the National Sweepstakes had something to do with the Fender Museum in Corona California and possibly a benefit concert that was played at the Museum, but cannot verify. I have verified the signature to be real though, and that is as far as I have gotten. This guitar was recently appraised at a local guitar show for $2000.
One of the three markers that he used to sign it is included in the case. The other 2 were present, but the previous owner's children absconded with them for school supplies. SHEESH!! Also comes with some case candy, including Schaller strap locks, and Fender strap. The case has some storage marks. This guitar only weighs approx 7.5 pounds and feels as good as it looks. Sounds beautiful with that chimey bell-like tone that comes from a lighter strat. Top quality all the way. It's hard to believe this is a production guitar. And it wouldn't surprise me if it were handpicked for the sweepstakes because it really is a good one!
